No, my title isn't referring to my selfcentered-ness (that's my next post). It's me warming up my voice, because..

Despite having bronchitis, I auditioned for a bluegrass band this morning and... I got it! :) We'll see how it goes. At this point I'm doing a lot of harmony for the other girl in the band and I think I'll bring in some of my own stuff later. Annie - we sang "Angel Band"! Reminded me of singing with you! :) I'll keep you all posted on shows, CD, tour dates.. LOL!

Talk About Movies.. take one!

I am a leader with a youth group at the Catholic high school that I graduated from and gave a mini-talk last week. I came up with this analogy to explain what we do at YoungLife and I really liked it in general! I thought I would share it with you. :) Could I base my life on movies any more? I don't think so! LOL

"I was thinking about movies this week. You know when you're doing homework and you're watching a movie that's on TV? You know, you're not really watching the movie. I mean, you may look up every so often if a good part comes on, but it's just kind of on in the background, right?

"Then there are the movies that you are crazy about! You have the special edition DVD, you know all the actors, their bios, where the movie was shot, all the quotes, the posters all over your room.. Let's just be honest. You're kind of obsessed! Have you heard about this movie 'Twilight'? (At this point, the girls went into Beatle-mania excitement!) Okay, I guess you do. Well, people are all about this movie! The soundtrack went to #1 and the movie hasn't even come out yet! I was listening to the radio on the way here and I heard that some of the actors appeared at a mall and were swarmed by these crazy fans! There were people with broken noses, people ripping clothes; it was insane!

"These levels of interest in movies is similar to our interest in our faith! Some people don't even know there's a movie playing. They're in a completely different room of the house. These people don't really know about God or have any faith experience. I think most of us would be the people who have the movie on in the background of our lives. You know, we might be at mass and we end up paying attention more than usual or we hear a story that makes us think about bringing Jesus into our lives more. But then we kind of go back to our 'homework'. We go back to our lives and just look up at the good parts.

"What we gotta strive for is to have a faith that is like the 'Twilight' craze! We should want to know all about Jesus, understand what the Church teaches, learn about his saints, quote the Bible, fill our room with 'paraphernalia'.. Minus the broken noses and ripped clothing, our relationship with Jesus should be the thing we're all about! :) Also, think about when you really love something (mine would be the TV show, The Office) and someone says they've never heard about it. You're like, 'OH. MY. GOSH! You have to experience this!' We're called to do the same thing with our faith; to tell others about how great this life is!

"The great thing about our faith is that we're not just 'watching' the same thing over and over! We're IN this movie! :) When we go spend time with Jesus in Adoration tonight, think about the scene you're in right now and ask Jesus how you can make this day one of the highlights in the movie of your faith. This youth group is like our 'Twilight' fan club! We're here to talk about Jesus, learn about Jesus and come to love Him more!"

Then someone woke the kids up and we went on our way. LOL :)

Random thought..

So I was watching TV and I gotta say, I love Applebees commercials. Here's why: John. Corbett. He has always been my favorite actor. He played the fiance in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". And yes, okay, he also starred as the weird, zurna-playing (yes, I had to google that) boyfriend in "Seredipity", but that's not the point!! Don't hold that one against him! He's sooo hunky and I would happily fork over a good amount of money for a plane ticket and a new pair of panty hose, if that meant I could get into his path, fain injury and fall into his arms. Even if it was just for a minute. ;) Anyway, he is the voice of Applebees right now and okay, so that probably means he isn't rolling in a whole lot of "cinematic dough" at the moment, but I don't care. I'm not in this relationship for the money. I'm in it for his looks, his sultry voice and the inevitable free Applebees. I heart him.

That's all! :)

Need a new look!?

One of my favorite bloggers is hosting a little giveaway! A $25 giftcard to Sephora (one of my favorite stores.. all makeup, all WONDERFUL)! Whether you enter or not, head over to Mrs. Beguiles' blog and enjoy her refreshing perspective on our feminine genius! :)

Weekend Pics

Now, I am not much of a party animal. I like a nice cocktail and my current drink of choice is whiskey and water with two ice cubes. But I knew, at some point, I would have to experience Broad Ripple (think: every kind of bar you can possibly imagine within a couple blocks) and I would much rather have gone with my non-partying girl friends! So, here we are! It was a really fun night, but I think I'll stick with my low-key socializing. :)

So here's some pics of the night out! I love this one of me and Rita. This was taken at a bar called "Bleaker Street". We really wanted to find a place to do karaoke, but they didn't have anything like that on the weekends. Instead, Rita and Mikey danced the night away and Brooke and I got to catch up and watch the purses. LOL There was definitely a lot of people watching to do!

We went to this bar where the shots came in large syringes! It was pretty funny! Rita and I each got one and took them home. :) Here's a picture of me "shooting up" my shot.

This group picture is of us all. From left to right, Brooke, Rita, me and Mikey. Right after this picture was taken some guys got into a fight and were thrown out and then up against the window that we were sitting next to. I freaked out a little.. (Sigh) It was the kind of thing I could have gone without.

All in all, it was a fun night. :) The next night was Elisabeth's wedding.. Sorry, Joannie. I have no pictures of that. My purse was too small (and too cute) for a camera. :) I do have a picture of the purse.. :) I just wish I had gotten one of my outfit! I thought it was cute!

Hope everyone else had a nice weekend! :) I assume yours involved less super-sized syringes.. Or maybe not! I shouldn't just assume.. LOL

I'm so excited!

What a great weekend ahead!

Tonight I have guests! At the last minute Michaela, Rita and Brooke (my friend from Spageddies, tho now she is a nurse in IL) all decided to come down to Indy to have a girls' night! I haven't seen Brooke in a year or so, and we always have so much fun! We're going to hang out in my dorm suite (which is more accomodating than you'd think because I have 2 rooms, my own bathroom and 3 empty beds), then later I think we're going to head out to some finer establishments in Broad Ripple (which Rita calls "The Rip", or something) and then come back for a slumber party! :) I'm so glad! I haven't had the best week and this is just what I need! :)

We'll be back to Lafayette on Saturday around noon. I promised my sister Annie that I would watch the new Tinkerbell movie with her on Saturday, so that will be a relaxing (probably much needed after the night before) afternoon. Then it's Elisabeth's wedding!! I can't wait! It will be great to see everyone and I'm sure a very fun time!

Sunday is the CC play, "Crazy For You"! I can't wait to see the kids! It brings back memories of being in the plays! Good times. ;0) Then Mikey and I are going to meet up to practice a skit we're doing for the mom's group on Monday. Have you seen our video on YouTube? Go ahead.. take a look! It's pretty darn funny, if I do say so myself! We're going to do an 80's version for the mom's group, WWMD (What Would Mary Do).

Anyway, hope everyone had a good week! Enjoy the weekend!
